Time Off

Ten to fourteen days is usually sufficient to be away from school or work. A plaster splint will be placed on the nose and remain for 6 to 8 days. An internal pack will often be placed for two days.

There may be some swelling when the splint is removed. The splint is replaced on the nose overnight for the next two to six weeks. This extra splintage controls swelling which tends to occur overnight when the kidneys retain fluid. Previously we advised routine massage of the nose to get rid of swelling. Prevention is better than cure!

The sooner the swelling is reduced the sooner you can return to school or work.
